Drawings

My portraits are living on shadow and light, often on the soft, velvety texture of graphite powder and soft pencils.

Freckles, one of my recent topics, are mesmerising, little stars on the skin of some lucky people. As they are unique, faces with freckles can neither be boring, nor join the all-too-similar social media types, nor are easily forgotten.

‘Miserere’, a graphite collage of a beggar with his kitten, is composed out of hundreds of patterned paper snippets which I made. I graded the pieces by tonal contrasts and assembled them, letting the old man and his friend take shape, piece-by-piece.
